Altinkum and Didim at a glance
Altinkum is a seaside resort on Turkey’s Aegean coast, in the Didim district of Aydın province. Its name means “golden sand”, and it lives up to it: fine golden sand, shallow, clear and usually calm water, and a seafront lined with restaurants, cafés and pubs make it one of the most popular beaches in the Aegean for families and sun-seekers alike.
What sets Altinkum apart is how close history is. The great Temple of Apollo at Didyma stands just a few kilometres away in Didim town, and the ancient cities of Miletus and Priene, the bird-rich shores of Lake Bafa and the stone-built village of Akköy are all easy day trips. A few kilometres inland the landscape turns to olive groves: olive growing is the most important farming tradition of this land.
